Mary Mevelean Grimes Carroll age 75 passed away Thursday evening at ElmCroft of Jackson.

She was born July 2, 1941 in Hardin County and grew up in Henderson, the daughter of the late John Wade and Cora Alma White Grimes. She went to high school in Chester County. She worked as a dispatcher for the Centerville Police Department, and later at the Tennessee State Unemployment Office. She married Glenn Allen Curtis in 1960. They made their home at Adamsville. They moved to Memphis and she owned and operated Shelby Restaurant in Bartlett. She then worked as Deli Manager at Kroger on Appling Road at Bartlett.

She married Buel ‘Buddy’ Carroll in 1991 and they made their home at Bartlett. She loved her grandchildren and loved to play cards.

Mrs. Carroll is survived by her husband, Buel ‘Buddy’ Carroll, Jr. of Bartlett; a son, Richard Curtis and wife Bradley of Jackson, two stepdaughters, Christi Carter and husband Mark of Germantown and Vicki Richards of Atoka; two grandchildren Wesley Curtis and wife Liz and Wade Curtis and wife Lindsay, four step grandchildren, Alan Carter, Chase Carter, Drew Richards and Taylor Richards and two great grandchildren, Daniel Curtis and Tatum Curtis and a sister, Lorean Vernon of Finger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Rose Crowe and four brothers, Melvin, Howard, Emil and Granville Grimes.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday March 6, 2017 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Eric Barnhart and Richard Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday.
