Leo E. Dierks, 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday August 27, 2007. He was born August 3, 1918, in Monticello, Iowa to Adolf and Anna (Prull) Dierks.
He came to Toledo in 1937 and married Maribel (Mary) Reed on May 3, 1944 in Paulding, OH
Leo was a tool and die maker with the former Auto Lite and the Jeep Corporation where he retired in 1982.
During World War II, Leo served honorably in the Army. He was a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Toledo, American Legion Walter Weller Post 135, long time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Vintage Aircraft Association, and a charter member of the National Aeronca Association and was a previous member of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
Leo was an antique car buff, restoring several vintage cars, enjoyed motorcycles, airplanes and early steam engines. He especially enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and also Europe. Leo and his wife, Mary, spent winters in Florida for 12 years, in Homestead and Sebring.
His innate sense of curiosity, determination and work ethic lives on in his family.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harry, Lorence and his sister, Elizabeth Spohler. Surviving ae his loving wife of 63 years, Mary; son, Duane (Connie) Dierks; daughter Jean (Dan) Holzchieter; grandchildren, Michael (Karen) Dierks, John (Marcey) Dierks and Kee (Art) Mattens; great-grandchildren, Kianna Dupree, Danek, Victoria, Brandon and Hannah Dierks.
Friends may call at the Forth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary, 3815 Sylvania Ave. (Between Monroe St and Talmadege Rd.) Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. John Richards of Hope United Methodist Church officiating. Interment Toledo Memorial Park.
Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider Hope United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
