Archie Elwood Skeen
July 27, 1936 - June 2, 2017

PLAIN CITY - Archie E. Skeen passed away Friday, June 2, 2017, at his home in Plain City, Utah. He was born July 27, 1936 to Elwood (Dick) and Luella Hunt Skeen. He attended school in Plain City, and then graduated from Weber High School in 1954. He later attended Utah State University and then transferred and graduated from the University of Utah.
On August 30, 1956, he married Sharon Powell in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They were blessed with 5 children: Jed and Peggy Skeen, Plain City, Utah; Susan Skeen, Roy, Utah; Karen and Brain Loosli, Ashton, ID; Sally and Greg Hardcastle, West Weber, Utah; Janet and Kerry Peterson, North Ogden, Utah. They have 12 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren. They love their family dearly.
While at the University of Utah, Archie earned many awards. He was selected First Team All-American Baseball Catcher. He won the National Home Run Title. He also won the National RBI Title and held this record for 38 years.
In 1959, Archie signed a Bonus Baseball Contract with the Boston Red Sox. He had great success and was selected All-Star Catcher for the following leagues: 1960 Midwest League, 1961 Eastern League, and 1962 Pacific Coast League.
Archie was inducted into three Hall of Fames: 1991 The University of Utah Crimson Club Hall of Fame, 1992 Utah State Hall of Fame, and 2015 Weber High School Hall of Fame.
Archie is survived by his wife, family, and sister, LaRae (Bob) Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Wayne (Anna Jean) Skeen.
His careers included coaching at the Clearfield Job Corp and as a Loan Officer for Prudential Federal Savings and Loan. Archie worked for Weber County as the Parks and Recreation Director.
Archie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in various positions including Stake Athletic Director, Ward Clerk, High Priest Group Secretary, Assistant Finance Clerk, Primary Teacher and Home Teacher. He and his wife served together as missionaries in the Inner City, Ogden Utah Mission. They also served as Ordinance Workers in the Ogden Utah Temple.
Archie was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing in Montana, hunting with the guys from Plain City, golfing with his good buddies, and camping with family and special friends. However, his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Plain City 2nd Ward Chapel located at 2952 North 4200 West, Plain City, Utah. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., and prior to the service on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
