Mason Rex Bias, 91, of Ft. Thomas KY, died on June 3, 2017 at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport, KY · Saint Elizabeth Hospice. His parents, Averill Avis Bias and Zuma Zee Samson, both of Wayne, WV are previously deceased; as are his siblings, Euneva Bias Mustard and Robert Scott Bias. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Ramona Dawn Smith Bias, his son, Richard R. Bias, and daughter-in-law, Kay Gross, Long Island, NY, daughter, Jennifer L. Bias, Ft. Thomas, KY, and grandchildren, Brian Gross-Bias, Toledo, OH, and Kelly Gross-Bias and Hannah Weld, Nottingham, England. Mason began work with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad at age 17, staying with the company until retiring from CSX in 1985. Over the years his duties included telegraph operator, ticket agent, train dispatcher and Chief Train Master, Covington, KY. During WWII he was enrolled in the Army, stationed in Hawaii. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Covington KY. He was an active member of St. John's U.C.C., Newport, KY. He served on the Treasury Board and was a member of Life Partners, Senior Retiree Group, Golf Team and Choir. While at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport, KY, he performed in a glee club and won an award for best sense of humor. Over the years, he enjoyed traveling, singing, playing cards, waterskiing, tennis, fishing, golf, and reading current events and fiction novels. He was a man of many talents, but the one that stood out was making people feel good about themselves and sharing his humor and take on life. He was friends with all he met and he will be missed by many. Visitation will be Saturday, June 10, 9:30am to 11:00am at St. John's United Church of Christ, 415 Park Ave., Newport, KY. Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11:00am at the church, with Rev. John Robson officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, KY following the church service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's U.C.C., Music Fund, 415 Park Ave., Newport, KY 41071. Dobbling, Muehlenkamp & Erschell Funeral Home is assisting the family.
