He was an avid lover of the outdoors and passed along a great love of God’s earth and creatures to all of his children. He also gifted his children with a love of writing and literature, including that of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia. As Lewis so eloquently concluded in The Last Battle, “But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and their adventures… had only been the cover and the title page. Now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read, which goes on forever, in which every chapter is better than the one before.”
He is survived by: his wife, Leigh Patterson; his daughter, Paige, and her, husband Mark Davis; his son, John, and his wife Jenny; his step-son, Chad, and his partner, Christina; his daughter, Jena, and her husband, Wesley Scott; his remaining daughters, Maggie, Lizzie, Christen, Kate; his grandchildren, Cayleigh, Lillian, Matthew and Peyton; and his six siblings, George, Tim, Monica, Mary, Jennie and Judy.
Visitation will be at the Church of the Annunciation, in Paris, Kentucky, on Friday, December 9, from 4:00 to 7:30 p.m., concluding with the praying of the Holy Rosary and the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for overnight Adoration. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 10, at the Church of the Annunciation. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, in Paris. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Church of the Annunciation.
