Gene attended Miss Cook’s School, graduated from Central High School in 1939 and from Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) in the class of 1943 with a BA in Business Administration.
After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he returned to Memphis and was employed by Arthur Fulmer, Inc. from 1948 to 1991. While at Arthur Fulmer, he served as Product Manager, National Accounts Sales Manager for Kool Kooshion and President of Electro, Inc., a manufacturer of motorcycle helmets and accessories.
After his retirement, Gene was active in the volunteer community and served many years as a volunteer for Ronald McDonald House and as Transportation Coordinator for the American Cancer Society. He was a member of the University Club and Idlewild Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and elder and as a long-time teacher of adult Sunday School classes. He was also a commissioned lay preacher, filling in for clergy at various churches around the Presbytery.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy McMahan Reynolds and his wife, Dorothy Hankins Reynolds.
He is survived by his wife Jean Magee Reynolds. He also leaves his daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Jeff Thompson of Memphis; his son and daughter-in-law Bob and Sharon Reynolds of Paragould, Arkansas; grandchildren Reid Thompson, Ellen Thompson Olson, Ginger Thompson Wedemeyer, Jeffrey Eugene Reynolds, and Charles Walter Reynolds; and two great-grandchildren. Three step-children, Sandra Polk of Nashville, Ruffner Murray, Jr. of Memphis, and John Rosser Murray of Counce, TN, along with five step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 31 at Idlewild Presbyterian Church,
