Henry Burt, an old resident and pioneer in Kirkwood, aged 83 years, was found drowned in a well located in the basement of his house near that village, last Friday afternoon [Nov 5]. He was an Englishman by birth, and came to Kirkwood in 1844, since which time he has lived there on a farm situated about three miles from the depot up in the hills, where he carried on a shoe-making business in connection with his agricultural pursuits. He was first missed by his family at about noon Friday and search was instituted in the neighborhood, and continued without gaining any tidings of him until five o'clock in the afternoon, when acting upon the suggestion of one of the villagers, the well in the house was searched, and the body of the unfortunate man was discovered beneath the water, head downward.
