Cyrus Martin Pope was born in Milton on May 29, 1839.
He spent his boyhood days in the town of his birth and on Sept. 11, 1862, enlisted at Highgate in Co. K., 13th Vt. Vols., receiving an honorable discharge at Brattleboro soon after the Battle Of Gettysburg, through which he did heroic service. His war record was very commendable as shown in an interesting history of his regiment, compiled by H. W. Allen, of Burlington and others,in which Mr. Pope is given special reference.
He married Mrs. Julia A. Lilley, on Dec. 22, 1869.
