James E. Whitmore, age 75, of Battle Creek, died Sunday March 15, 2015 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. Jim was born April 8, 1939 in Battle Creek to Burton Buckner and Dallas M. Ellis. Jim attended Battle Creek Schools and had been employed by American Legion Hospital, Community Hospital, Battle Creek Health Systems and the Veterans Administration Medical Center, retiring in 2002. Jim enjoyed bowling, oil painting, old cars, the Detroit Tigers and writing poetry. Jim is survived by his sisters, Donna Campbell, Crystal (Woody) Wood, Margaret Reeves, all of Battle Creek, and Maxine (Ray) Simmons Sr. of Grand Rapids, many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie M. (Lenz) Whitmore, and a son Brian E. Whitmore.
