According to LDS Henry Washington Carver was born to Cornelius C. Carver and Mary Jane Thompson. When Cornelius and Mary Jane divorced she was 8 months pregnant with his older sister Ellen Carver. Henry was born 3 years after the divorce. When he was 4 years old Mary Jane married Wesley Hasting and I found a receipt dated 1896 from Doctor Fouts to Henry Hasting for $3. He may have went by both names and the 1880 census showed him at 6 yrs old with the name of Henry C. Hasting.
Henry married Addie A. Olvey 21 Jul 1895 and the bible says babe born 12 Apr 1896 and Addie died 17 Apr 1896. The receipt was for care provided to Addie by Doctor Fouts. He married Sally Elizabeth Caylor 21 Feb 1897 and had 13 children (my father John Clayton Carver the oldest son) with 2 dying as infants. My mother told me that grandpa Henry liked to drink (allot) and was mean when he drank too much. He was killed in a scuffle while under arrest for public drunk near his home at the end of Big Gulley Road and Hwy 72. The paper said my father and one of my uncles
were trying to take Grandpa from Officer Joe Steele when Officer Steele's revolver accidently discharged and killed Grandpa. My mother Ellen Russell Carver (6 months pregnant with my oldest sister) witnessed the incident.
