Georgia Mae Sands, 84, of Springfield, passed at 3:03 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

She married Merle C. Sands on Dec. 6, 1941 who preceded her in death.

Georgia owned Little Moppet Daycare in Springfield before retiring. She was a Gold Star Mother, a group that helps mothers continue the legacy of a child who died at war. Georgia was a dedicated mother who cared deeply for her family. She also enjoyed garage sales, gambling and playing cards.

She was also preceded in death by her sons, Richard (Rick) in 1968 and Wayne in 2006; her parents; and her siblings, James Corbett Givens Jr., Alberta Hudson and Dora Heckwine.

Georgia is survived by her daughter, Lillian (Bill) Dalsin of Springfield; her son, Danny (Julie) Sands of Rochester; her six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, siblings, Margaret Provence, Marjorie (John) Ushman, Shirley J. Lawson and Elsie Brooks; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral ceremony was Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, Springfield, with Vaughn Beeman officiating.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Gold Star Mothers, or Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
