Joseph was born Abt 1831 in Ohio to Samuel and Eliza (Keller) Jackson. In the 1850 census Joseph is eighteen and living in Samuel's household, in Effingham, Effingham Co, Illinois. In the 1860 census Samuel and Eliza are living in Cain Township, Fountain, Indiana, however Joseph in not living in the household. In the 1870 census I find Joseph still living in Illinois. He is listed with a wife, Sarah D., a daughter Annie E. and a son Samuel H.. Also living with him is a Catharine Sperry {mother in law). In the 1880 census Joseph has come to Kansas, Crawford County. The household shows him,a son Samuel H., his mother, Eliza, and an adopted Daughter, Cora Hoffman.

On October 10, 1881 Joseph Jackson and Jane Amelia Maycroft are married in Crawford County, Kansas.

Joseph is buried in Waco Cemetery. His grave is just to the south of his son Franklin who died at the age of 3yrs. The grave for Joseph is marked by a stone which reads Father 1900 and to the right of Joseph is his wife Jane Amelia.
Her grave is marked by a stone which reads Mother 1936.
