Gary Sherman, our foundation of love, honesty, and friendship, passed peacefully on June 26, 2016.

Gary served proudly in the United States Army during Vietnam, earning two purple hearts. He "broke the chasm" by graduating from Franklin University and achieving success as a charismatic businessman, devoted family man and genuine friend. He passed peacefully the way he lived his life: "the man with a plan."

Loved ones who cleared the path for Gary were his parents, Kendall Sherman and Dorothy "Sis" Sherman; beloved grandparents Frank and Dot Brown; and uncles and aunts who influenced his life greatly, Frank Brown, Paul "Sonny" Sherman, Joyce "Tiny" Sherman and his beloved labrador, Sherman.

Gary meant so much to so many people. To Sondra Sherman, he was the love of her life and best friend for over 47 years. To his daughter, Heather Sherman Ruby, he was her hero and loving father. To his son, Zak Sherman, he was a mentor and best friend. To his son-in-law, Denny "Denzel" Ruby, he was a life-changing mentor, and to his daughter-in-law, Jen "Switch" Sherman, he was her biggest supporter. To his six grandsons, Jake Ruby, Cole Sherman, Nik Ruby, Beau Sherman, Rocco Ruby, and Hank Sherman, he was their biggest fan. To his special aunts, Bessie Sherman and Helen Brown, he was a son.

His list of extended family and friends is long and far reaching and to them...he was GSherm.

In lieu of flowers, make a donation in Gary's honor to the New Marshfield Church of Christ and/or American Legion Post 21 Athens, Ohio.
