Dolly Drazich Svobodny died peacefully at her home in Salt Lake City on May 27, 2017.

Born in Salt Lake City on May 25, 1928, Dolly always spoke lovingly of her parents and many siblings. She attended West High and the University of Utah.

In college, she majored in English and worked as a reporter for The Salt Lake Tribune. After graduation, Dolly went to Washington, D.C and began working for the United States Information Agency. She was stationed briefly in Poland and then in Spain for seven years.

In Barcelona, she met Virgil J. Svobodny of St. Paul, Minnesota and they married in 1953. They were married for fifty-five years until Virgil's death in 2008. The couple lived in Prague, Czechoslovakia; Denver, Colorado; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Salt Lake City; Manhasset, New York; and Geneva, Switzerland.

Dolly was a very creative and dynamic person. She spoke several languages, wrote masterfully and loved to tell stories. She received a PhD in Romance Languages from New York University, worked for the Modern Language Association (MLA) and Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), and founded and ran her own publishing company.

Dolly is survived by her three children, Thomas, Dane, and Nicole; and three grandchildren, Gabriel, Caterina, and Sophie. She is preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Peter, Nick, and George Drazich; and sisters, Ruby (Baich) and Sylvia (Green).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 in St. Anna's Greek Orthodox Church, 3150 East Creek Road, Sandy, followed by burial in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
