Carol Ann Moreland, 79, was born in Memphis, Tennessee, November 9th, 1937 to Martha Shirey Dowdy and Levi Dowdy.

Carol Ann graduated from Central High School and Memphis State University. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority at Memphis State.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Moreland Zamora, son, George M. (Chip) Moreland III, daughter-in law, Cindy Moreland, her four precious grandchildren; Alaina Kring, Averie Kunz, Meredith Moreland, George Hays Moreland, brother, Bill Dowdy, and his wife Linda.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, George Monroe Moreland II.

Carol Ann spent her career as an elementary school teacher with the Memphis City Schools, and retired from Grahamwood Elementary after 37 years of service. Carol Ann understood the importance of structure and routine and truly invested her time, energy, and love into her students. She had high expectations for behavior and academics, and dedicated her life to enriching her student’s lives. Even after she retired, Carol Ann volunteered to tutor and mentor at risk students because helping others was her passion. Since October 1992, Carol Ann was a dedicated and loyal member of the Tennessee Alpha Delta Kappa, Alpha Psi Chapter, International Teachers Sorority. At her local chapter, she was the President for two terms, and held various other offices. Carol Ann also served at the ADK State Level as Sargent at Arms, Corresponding Secretary, and Historian. Her active passion for recruiting women was evident by her receiving recognition for bringing the most new members into the organization. This October, Carol Ann becomes a Silver Sister for 25 years of service to ADK. She was also a member of the Grahamwood Elementary Retired Teachers Association where she joyfully planned and attended many events. Carol Ann was a long time and faithful member of Mullins United Methodist Church since 1972. She most recently served as the chairman of the Staff Parrish Relations Committee, and participated in Sunday School classes, bible studies, and training events. Carol Ann was a member of Civitan International with her late husband George. She enjoyed building local area clubs with him, and they both were members of the Germantown Civitan Club. There was no one in the world quite like Carol Ann. She was a dedicated wife, an incredible momma, doting Maw Maw, and a kind sister and aunt. She was a caring, loyal, loving, and true friend to everyone she met, and was the best friend that anyone could ever want. She fiercely loved everyone in her life and made a lasting impression on those in it. Her caring heart, selfless attitude, and thoughtfulness will be greatly missed and never replaced.

Funeral Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, June 3rd, 1:00 pm, with services and grave side to immediately follow in Memorial Park cementary.
