Daughter of Louis Courreges and Rose Cherico Courreges, Louise was born in Austin in the family home at 701 East Avenue. The 1900 census dated 6/4/1900 lists the East Avenue address and records her date of birth as October 1899. The census lists other children in the household: Edna, b. Mar. 1894 and Felix, b. May 1897.


The family later moved a few blocks up the street to 1010 East 7th Street. The 1910 census dated 4/23/1910 reflects the 1010 E 7th Street address and Louise's age at last birthday as 10 years of age. Other children in the household and ages: Edna, 16; Felix, 13; George, 7; Patricia, 5; Catherine, 3; Riley 3 mos.


Louise attended Bickler School, located on the south side of East 11th Street between Sabine and East Avenue (modern day address would be 701 East 11th Street).


The 1918 Austin City Directory lists "Miss Louise P. Courreges, h. 1010 E 7th".


Louise is in the 1920 census dated 1/12/1920 residing in the family residence at 1010 E 7th Street with her occupation noted as "saleswoman dry goods". Her mother is listed as are her siblings, Edna, 25; Felix, 23; George, 17; Patricia, 14; Katherine, 11; and Riley, 10. A grandson is also listed in the household, "Lewis" (correctly Louis Arthur Woehl, b. 3/5/1915, son of Edna).


The 1920 Austin City Directory has an entry for Louise, "Miss slsldy T H Williams & Co h 1010 E 7th".


The 1924 Austin City Directory lists Louise as a "pupil nurse Seton Infirmary". Valedictorian of her graduating class at the Seton School of Nursing, Louise went on to be an extraordinarily capable registered nurse.


Louise is listed in the 1929 Austin City Directory, "Courreges, Louise, nurse, 805 Brazos".


She married Thornton J. O'Connor in 1929. They had two children, Patricia Marie (b. 1931, later married last name "Keel") and Mary Colleen (b. 1938, later married last name "George"). The family resided in the 1930s at 4202 Sinclair in Austin. Thornton served in the United States Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees) in World War II. During the war and for some years thereafter the family lived at 2802 Salado Street. She and Thornton later built a home at 2612 Bridle Path, moving there around 1949.


The 1950 U.S. Census dated April 6th reflects the family residence on Bridle Path and lists Thornton's occupation as an auditor for the State Dept. of Vocational Education. Wife Louise (occupation "Director of Nursing Bureau" for the "Bureau of Registered Nurses") is listed as well as eleven-year-old daughter, Colleen. They lived on Bridle Path for two decades until August 1969. Louise ran the Austin Nursing Bureau, a staffing service for placing registered nurses with physicians.


Louise and her husband were active members of Saint Austin Catholic Church. Her husband passed away in 1974 and Louise died in 1980. She is the maternal ancestor to numerous Austin, Texas Keel family descendants of present day.

O'CONNOR - Louise, 79, 808 Brooks Hollow Road, died Tuesday. Rosary 7:30 p.m. today at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Mass 10 a.m. Thursday at Assumption Cemetery Chapel. Burial, Assumption Cemetery. Survivors: daughters, Patty Keel of Austin, Colleen George of Lubbock; sister Patricia Anderson of San Angelo; six grandchildren. (Cook-Walden)
