Annie Laura graduated from Jourdanton High School in Jourdanton, Texas in 1958. She attended Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas and then Texas State Teacher’s College in San Marcos where she graduated with a degree in Education. Annie Laura later earned her Master’s of Education Degree from Southwest Texas State University. She began her teaching career at the age of 19, in Campbellton, Texas and taught in the Navarro ISD, and then began a long career working for San Marcos Consolidated School District. Before she retired, “Ms. Martin” served as the Chairperson for the Business Education Department at San Marcos High School. Annie Laura went on to teach as an adjunct Professor at Texas State University in the Business Department.

During her long career, Annie made a significant impact on her students and colleagues. She loved teaching and she loved the people she worked with. She derived great joy from seeing the successes of her former students.

Annie Laura married Melvin Harold “Butch” Martin and had two children, Halcy Ann Martin-Dean and James Thomas Martin. When her husband, Butch, passed away in 1976, Annie Laura dedicated the remainder of her life to her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and never missed a concert, play or sporting event if her family was involved.

Known as “Sister” to her brothers and as “Aunt Sis” to her many nieces and nephews, Annie adored her brothers and extended family and never missed a chance to spend time with her family. Annie was also an avid reader, gardener and sports fan. She was particularly fond of College Football and never missed a UT game on television.

Annie Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Butch, her mother and father, Ruby and Eugene, and her brothers, James Terry (Ty) Harrison, Gene Harrison, Richard Harrison and Les Harrison as well as a nephew, Boyd Harrison.

She is survived by her daughter, Halcy and her husband, Perry Dean and their children Erica, Parker and Harrison Dean as well as her son James Thomas.
