B.F. Slater married Miss Margaret McBee on 23 December 1865 at Brownsville, Arkansas according to his wife's records. To this union, six children were born, five were alive at the time of their father's death. In 1890, Benjamin Franklin Slater and his wife, Margaret McBee Slater moved from Arkansas to Erath County, Texas with their five children: Will, Edd, Ben, Carrie, and George. In 189,8the family moved to Young County, Texas settling in the Red Top Community north of Graham where they lived until his death.

Benjamin Slater joined the Methodist Church in 1866.

Survived by his wife; five children - William F Slater, Edward Thomas Slater, Mrs. Carrie Jane Cole, George W Slater, Benjamin W Slater.

Benjamin Franklin Slater served in the Confederate Army. He was nicknamed "Doc" and his grandchildren understand that to mean he was the 7th son of the 7th son in Ireland where the family originated. Benjamin Franklin Slater and his family were active in the Red Top Community. Over the years, many trips were made back to Erath County in covered wagons, hacks, buggies and cars to visit with a large number of relatives. The Slater men always worked their big problems out together, while the women put together big meals.

Will Slater married Martha Barrett and to this union was born: Mary Hill, Montie Baldridge, Carrie Huff, and Fay Orr.

Edd Slater married Etta Box and they had these children: Eurita Millican, Mary Riddle, Frank Slater, Lillian Petty, Bessie Farmer, and Ernest Slater.

Ben Slater married Ethel Powell and there were two sons born to this union: Edgar and Zearl.

Carrie Slater married Henry Cole and they had one daughter, Margaret.

George Slater married Mabel Kerr and their children were: Eileen Hiler, Artie Smith, Herbert Slater, Lois Shahan, and B.F. Slater.

In 1972, descendants living in and around Young County were: Dorothy Creel, Mary Riddle, Lillian Petty, Ruth Ragsdale, Bessie Farmer, Ernest Slater, Bennie Slater, Alan Slater, Margaret Cole, Artie Smith, Sammye Marchman, Lois Shahan, and Linda Overby.
