Actress. Born Elena Angela Verdugo, she will be remembered by television viewers in the role of the devoted office assistant and nurse Consuelo Lopez on the 1970s ABC drama "Marcus Welby M.D.". She got her start in acting at the age of 6 in the 1931 film "Cavalier of the West". She would go on to appear in numerous films during an acting career that span six decades. Her film credits included such works as "House of Frankenstein" (1944), "The Frozen Ghost" (1945), "Little Giant" (1946), "Cyrano de Bergerac" (1950), "Thief of Damascus" (1952) "Panama Sal" (1957), "Day of the Nightmare" (1965), and "The Boss' Son" (1978). She performed in the 1940s with the Xavier Cugat Orchestra and handled the vocals on his hit "Tico Tico", which was used in the finale of the 1945 Sonja Henie film "It's a Pleasure!". She made her television debut in 1952 on the series "Dangerous Assignment" and soon after she took over the role of wisecracking Brooklyn secretary Millie Bronson on both the radio and television versions of "Meet Millie". She stayed with "Meet Millie" until 1955 and continued her acting in television until the 1980s. Besides "Marcus Welby M.D.", her television credits included "The Red Skelton Hour", "Redigo", "The New Phil Silvers Show", "Mona McCluskey", "Love, American Style", and Scarecrow and Mrs. King". For her work in "Marcus Welby M.D.", she earned a Golden Globe nomination in 1973, two Primetime Emmy nominations (1971 and 1972), and an Image Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Dramatic Series or Miniseries or Television Movie in 1971. She was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
