Mrs. Byrd, born in Lee County; was the daughter of Alvie Oldham Patterson, Sr. and Margaret Doris Rogers Patterson. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alvie Oldham Patterson, Jr.
She worked for 25 years for Cross & Brinn Real Estate and Mann's Hardware for 8 years before retiring from the Lee County Register of Deeds after 21 years of service. She was a member of Jonesboro United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, John Wesley Byrd; a daughter, Sherry Byrd Cooper of Sanford; sisters, Josephine Maddox and husband Phil of Sanford; Rachel Hunter of Montgomery, AL; and a grandson, William Haywood Cooper, III of Sanford, NC.
The family received friends one hour prior services in the Wesley Center of the church.
The funeral services were held at 3 PM, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Jonesboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Andi Woodhouse officiating.
Burial was made in Broadway Town Cemetery, Broadway, NC.
