Charles (Chuck) Oliver Howland, 95, of Nampa, died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at a local retirement center of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Burial will follow at the Wilson Pioneer Cemetery.
Chuck was born May 17, 1922 on the family homestead near Cambridge, ID to Charles Henry & Frances Howland. He was the youngest of 6 children, Ronald (Buck), Bernice, Lawson, Geneva, and Louise.
He graduated from Cambridge High School, and attended the U of I before joining the US Marines in 1942. He served in communications on Guam, American Samoa, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. After an honorable discharge he returned to Cambridge where he was married to Ruby Currell. From this union they had 3 children; Dave, Tim and Dawna. He attended lineman school prior to working for Harney Electric Coop in Burns, OR. Ruby and Charles were divorced in 1962. Charles moved to Orevada, NV where he met and married Jessie Mae “Jimmie” Ferguson in 1966 and then moved to Burns, OR. Upon retirement they moved to Nampa, ID.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, his wife Jimmie, and her children Mitch and Beverly. He is survived by his children, Dave (Kimi), Tim (Ev), Dawna, (Dick), Joe Ferguson and Lorcie Ferguson, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Thank you to Harrison’s Hope Hospice for the loving care provided to our father in his last days.
We would also like to give a special thanks to Chuck’s granddaughter, Cindy Penner for the extra care and attention she provided him these past several years.
