Furman Hubert Heckle -- Orangeburg
Furman Hubert Heckle, 89, of Orangeburg, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg, with Masonic Rites.
Mr. Heckle was born June 19, 1918, in Calhoun County, the son of the late Grover C. Heckle and the late Jessie Zeigler Heckle. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of World War II; a member of First Baptist Church; retired owner and operator of Heckles Moving and Storage after 40 years of service; a member of the American Legion, the Edisto Shrine Club and a Mason; member of the Progress Lodge. He was the widower of the late Nena Bair Heckle. He was preceded in death by two brothers, G. Cleveland Heckle and W. Bernie Heckle; and a sister, Olivia H. Hair.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail H. Williams of Orangeburg; two sisters, Viola Heckle of St. Matthews, Lucille H. Dowdy of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Raymond Heckle Sr. of St. Matthews; four grandchildren, Ret. Lt. Commander Elizabeth Brunson Cotton, USN of Bremerton, Wash., Christina Brunson (Joey) Smoak of Lexington, Allison Brunson (Chris) Inabinet of Orangeburg, R.A. Brunson III "Trae" and wife, Mandy of Orangeburg; 10 great-grandchildren, Strock and Matthew Sully Cotton of Bremerton, Wash., Lauren and Christopher Smoak of Lexington, Evan, Laken and Brooke Inabinet of Orangeburg, Nate Steffen, Hailey and Catherine Brunson of Orangeburg.
Friends may call at the residence and at the funeral home.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Orangeburg.
