Jack STOCKTON (12/15/1927 - 05/27/2017)

Jack Stockton, born December 15, 1927 to M'Liss Finnegan and John Houston Stockton, passed away early May 27th. Raised in Spokane with his two sisters Mary Me and Dode, Jack lived all his 89 years in the Gonzaga neighborhood. He married his beloved Clementine in November of 1956, a marriage that lasted 50 years until Clemy's passing in 2006. They had four children: Steve (Mary Ann), Stacey, John (Nada) and Leanne. He was so proud of his grandchildren: Stephen (Payton), Houston, Michael, Shawn, David (Annelie), Riley, Lindsay, Laura and Samuel and great-grandson James. He is also survived by his niece Kellie and nephew Michael Dineen. A member of St. Aloysius Parish his entire life, Jack attended St. Aloysius grade school, Gonzaga Prep and Gonzaga University. He was a founding member of the Gonzaga Prep Booster club and was honored as Alumnus of the year in 1976. Jack served in the Coast Guard and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.
In 1961, Jack purchased Joey's Tavern and in 1962 became partners with Daniel Crowley. The two great friends had a long successful partnership. Known for their friendship and generosity, the partners rebranded the tavern in 1975 and Jack and Dan's became a Spokane institution. It was a hub for many in the Spokane community and a place where many enduring friendships were forged. After Dan retired in 1991, Jeff Condill joined Jack and continued the legacy of friendship and community that is Jack and Dan's. As a true Irishman, Jack took great pride in his Irish heritage. He loved Ireland, St. Patrick's Day and his Irish music. An avid reader, he was especially drawn to historical accounts. He loved his family, grandchildren, numerous friends and he is now reunited with Clementine, the love of his life. The family would like to thank the many friends that have visited, called and helped in countless ways over the past several years. We would like to extend a special thanks to Michelle Luna and Suzana Aslani for their kindness, caring and dedication to Dad these past 18 months that allowed him to stay in his home where he wanted to be. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: Sisters of the Holy Names, 2911 W. Fort George Wright Dr., Spokane, WA 99224. A rosary will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 7:30 pm at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone, Spokane, WA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 2nd at 10 am at St. Aloysius. Private family entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery at 2 pm.
