GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

Sunday was the golden anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. L. T. Merriam of our city; and the occasion would have been duly celebrated, but for a recent bereavement in the family.
Fifty years ago Lauren T. Merriam and Susan Hubbard, then in the mid-morning of life, were united in marriage among the Connecticut hills, whose summits were to them flecked with
the rainbow tints of promise. For half a century through varying fortune they have steered their life-barque down the stream of time to the present autumnal harbor.
Mr. Merriam has been engaged in a variety of enterprises, and at one time was a man of considerable means, being interested in three banks -- one in Connecticut and two in Indiana. In 1856 he was proprietor of a large store in Chicago, having removed to that city before the advent of railroads. This aged couple removed to Dixon twenty-two years ago, which has since been their home.
Mr. & Mrs. Merrian are well and favorably known to a very large circle of citizens who all wish them many happy anniversaries on the second half century of their matrimonial life.

The funeral of Mrs. L. T. Merriam took place at the Presbyterian church this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The remains are brought here from Warren, Ohio for interment in Oakwood Cemetery.
