Ron Layton Hurst "Good Humor Man" Ron "Bob" Hurst, 84, passed away on May 5, 2005 in Salt Lake City. He was born at home in Blanding, the second of eight children born to Ralph and Hazel Hurst on November 8, 1920. His grandparents were Philip and Rebecca Hurst and Willard and Hattie Guymon. He was educated and grew up in Blanding. He joined the CCC Camp in Bridgeland and then served in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the coal and uranium mines of San Juan and Carbon Counties and was also a long-haul truck driver and yellow cab driver. He was a member of the LDS Church and served as a scout master. He was well-known for his friendliness, his keen sense of humor, and for being a "Good Samaritan." Bob was a gifted artist, giving many beautiful paintings to family members. He loved animals and nature. He married Erma Powell on May 6, 1941 in Price; later divorced. They were blessed with nine children. He was a loving person and very family oriented. Ron later married Helen Johnson, his devoted and caring wife, on July 22, 1995 in Salt Lake City. Survived by wife, Helen, Salt Lake City; children: LeAnn (Ali) Abdulrahim, Kuwait; Linda Chatwin, Highland; Barbara Lynn (Harvey) Fullbright, Lexington, NC; Ron (Ann), West Jordan; Carl (Ann), West Jordan; Suellen (Ed) Chatwin, Hillsdale; Harold (Cindy), St. George; Robyn, Salt Lake City; Shauna (Rick) Wheatley, Veyo; 45 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren; sisters: Lenore (Ken) Ellett, Taylorsville; Jeanene (Jim) Miller, Salt Lake City; sister-in-law, Marian Hurst, Taylorsville. Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents; brothers and sisters: Quint, Hazel, Afton (Jess) Grover, Harold, Ivan (Mary Ann); and two grandsons. Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road. Family members will gather at 9:30 a.m. prior to services. Friends may visit at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment: Redwood Memorial Estates. The family expresses a special thanks to Saint Joseph's Villa Care Center.
