Richard "Dick" Dewey Yarnes, 81, of Marion, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017,
at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness, surrounded by his loving family. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, at Faith Lutheran Church in Marion, with the Rev. John Albertson officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour before the service on Monday at the church. A private committal will take place at a later date. Arrangements are in care of Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.

Richard was born the son of Hurley and Dorothy (Eastman) Yarnes on Christmas Day 1935 in Bagley, Iowa. His parents divorced when he was very young. Richard's mother later married Kenneth Williams and together they raised Richard. Dick served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Radarman 3rd Class, serving on the USS San Pablo. After his service, Dick worked for NCR (National Cash Register), where he was able to travel throughout Iowa for 38 years. His time spent with NCR allowed him to meet a lot of people; many of whom he remained friends with long after retirement.

In 1960, Dick met Linda Henderson. They were married in 1961 and later divorced. Dick then met and married Jennifer O'Connor in 1981. They remained married until her passing in 2000.
Dick enjoyed sitting on the porch visiting with friends and neighbors. He also had a special love for dogs.

He is survived by his children, Kelly Yarnes Schott of Iowa, Colleen (Ronald) Keach of Rhode Island, Richard D. (Lorenza) Yarnes Jr. of California and Michael O'Connor and Kelly (Bob) Himes of Iowa; seven grandchildren, Dawn, Derek, Rachel, Sierra, Samara, Mason and Mackenzie; and one great-grandchild, Zayden.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Jennifer Yarnes.
In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made to Cedar Valley Humane Society, 7411 Mount Vernon Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
