Roland Winkler was a kind soul. A Dancer and Musician, he was paralyzed from the shoulders down at age 19 due to a car accident in 1979 while riding with pop star Leif Garrett. He was confined to a wheelchair for the next 38 years. His love of life, forgiving nature and kind heart inspired many over the years. He appeared in a VH1 special where he and Garrett were reunited after years of having no contact. He eventually regained use of most of his body other than his legs. He was able to drive, bowl, swim and play water polo. He helped other paraplegics and sponsored many alcoholics and drug users. He was clean and sober until his death. He struggled with constant physical problems from the accident which eventually led to his passing. He is survived by his mother JoAnne, brother David and many relatives and friends. Roland was and will always be an inspiration to us all.
