Justin E. Holt 86 of Gallatin passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Haseville Cemetery near Laredo. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Gallatin or Crossroads Hospice.

Justin was born September 9, 1930 the son of Ora and Dessie (McNutt) Holt in Dunlap, MO. He attended East Fairview School north of Galt and graduated from Galt High School in 1949. He received an Associate’s Degree at Trenton Junior College and later went on to the University of Missouri where he received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Justin was inducted in the US Army in 1952 proudly serving his country until 1960. He was united in marriage to Jewell Dennis September 5, 1954 in Kansas City, MO; the couple made their home on a farm near Galt. Justin began his working career at the Missouri Extension Office in Chillicothe later being transferred to Fulton and Gallatin. He was employed for the Extension office for several years before taking employment for the Wood Brothers in Gallatin where he sold Butler Metal Buildings. He later became an insurance agent for the Larry D. Barnes Insurance Company in Trenton. Justin enjoyed helping his customers and worked in the business for many years, he was dedicated to the people he served and was always willing to help his clients with their needs.

Justin was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Gallatin where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and made many birdhouses, He liked to read and keep up on current events. When Justin went to the Veterans Home he liked to play bingo and poker, he always gave his winnings to someone else who needed it. He lived his life with the spirit of setting the example of being fair to people treating them as he wished to be treated. Justin was a kind and gentle man who loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed but not forgotten.

Justin is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Calvin and Kermit Holt and his sister, Marvis Davis.

Justin is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Jewell of the home, son, Eric (Lisa) Holt, St. Peters, MO, sister, Erma Hamilton, Gilman City, grandson, Travis Holt of Phoenix, AZ, granddaughter, Kristen Very and husband Jon of St. Peters, MO and great-granddaughter, Mikaela Very.
