In 1972, he purchased and operated his first business, Selma Shell and Dave's Towing, which is still in existence today. He continued his love of business by forming two more business partnerships with lifelong friends, Lanny Taylor and Jim Cook.

He also had a strong sense of dedication to his hometown. He was committed to supporting and assisting the Selma Police Department, Selma Community Hospital Foundation, Selma youth organizations, local clubs, and church, school and community events.

In 1989, David's love for racing became a reality. He established an internationally known 410 Sprint Car race team known as "Selma Shell Racing", headed by Sonny Kratzer.
