James M. Brandt, 86, of Mount Joy, passed away at on May 27, 2017 after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Effie Reesor Brandt with whom he would have shared 65 years of marriage in September. He is also survived by his daughter Susan wife of Leonard Mumma of Elizabethtown and three grandchildren; Taylor, Mitchell and Kirsten Mumma.

Jim was a graduate of the former Mount Joy High School, class of 1948. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines from 1950 to 1952. Jim was employed as a carpenter for Elmer Ginder prior to and after his military service. Later, Jim and Effie purchased and operated Rohrerstown Lawn Mower Shop until 2001 when he sold the business. Jim was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Mount Joy. He was an avid sailor and was often found on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay in his wooden Chris Craft boat. He also enjoyed spending time at his friend's cabin in Mifflinburg and hunting with his late son Scott. Always a smile on his face, Jim was often a jokester and will be remembered for his special personality.

A resident of Mount Joy all his life, he was the son of the late Albert G. and Verna Brandt. He is also survived by a brother Robert Brandt of Elizabethtown. He was preceded in death by his son Scott in 1994 and a brother Lloyd Brandt.

A Funeral Service honoring Jim's life will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 27 East Main Street, Mount Joy on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 2 pm. Jim's family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 pm. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of his family in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville.
