Robert was the son of Hugh and Jane Neill Cochrane. He was married to Aurora B. Albertson Cochrane as his first wife and then Matilda S. Lynch Cochrane as his second wife. Robert was one of the early settlers in Glasgow Township, Wabasha County, Minnesota in 1855.

On October 17, 1877, Robert purchased 640 acres in Section 29 Township 144 North Range 43 West. He was in the 1880 US Census for Crookston Twp., Polk County, Minnesota.

Robert turned his farm over to his son, Bert, about 1896 and Robert moved to the City of Crookston and he was still there in 1906 per his daughter's marriage application. He moved to Park River, North Dakota in 1907 and he was in the 1910 US Census for 1st Ward, Park River, Walsh County, North Dakota as an 81 year old lodger.

Headline: AGED RESIDENT PASSED AWAY

"Robert Cochrane, an aged resident of this city, passed away Tuesday
afternoon at the home of Peter McDonald, deceased having made his home with
the McDonald family for the past seven years. He was 91 years of age and
had been a resident of Park River for about 12 years, coming from Crookston,
Minn. Deceased had been in poor health for some time prior to his death.

He had no relatives in this section of the country, a daughter, a former
resident of this city having died several years ago. A niece from
Crookston, Minn., arrived here to attend the funeral.

Funeral services were held from the McDonald home Thursday afternoon at 2
o'clock conducted by Rev. McInnes, and the remains interred at Memorial
Park."
