He was the son of Stella Banks Parsons & Charles Howard Magness. He married Margaret Louise (Randles), the daughter of Melissa Ann (Stewart) and Charles Remick Randles.

Jay W. Magness, 70, died unexpectedly at 9:30 a.m. today at his home in Plainfield.

Born Jan. 21, 1895, in Plainfield to Charles H. and Stella Parsons Magness, he was married June 2, 1920, to Margaret Randles who survives.

He was a member of the Plainfield Methodist Church where he served as teacher and superintendent of the Sunday School for many years. He served as clerk of the former Plainfield School Board for 20 years and was in the Navy in World War I for two years. A retired chicken and produce farmer, Mr. Magness also raised Silver Marten Rabbits, which he exhibited at shows throughout the nation.

Surviving besides his widow are a son Sgt. Fielding Magness of the Army, stationed in Washington D.C.; one daughter, Mrs. C.B. (Marilyn) Cover of Lakeside, Calif.; a brother Dr. A.P. Magness of Coshocton, and three grandchildren. A brother and a sister are deceased.

Arrangements are in charge of the Bonnell – O’Neill Funeral Home in West Lafayette.
