David L. Lietz, 65, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 4:25 a.m., Monday, May 29, 2017 at the Tuscola Nursing Home, Tuscola, IL.

Graveside Services with military rites accorded will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL with Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL

Dave was born on November 13, 1951 in Champaign, IL, the son of Albert H. and Thelma M. Doehring Lietz. He was married to Becky S. Hettinger Lietz.

Survivors include his daughter: Tammy (Mark) Martin of Tuscola, grandsons: Zack Martin of Clinton, IN and Austin Martin of Tuscola, 3 great-grandsons and sister: Carolyn Hilligoss of Decatur.

He was preceded in death by his daughter: Marci S. Lietz, parents, brothers: Louis, Wayne and Roger Lietz, nephew: Chuckie Lietz and niece: Nichole Lietz

Dave graduated from Tuscola Community High School in 1969. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. He formerly worked at Cargill in Tuscola and retired from Tolono Unit #7 School District as head of maintenance.

Dave was a very active member of the Tuscola community, serving on the Tuscola School Board for many years. He loved umpiring baseball, girls softball and referring boys and girls basketball games and track officiating. He was a former Tuscola Torpedo’s swim team starter. David was an all around sports fan, especially the Fighting Illini, Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Marci Lietz Scholarship Fund.
