Funeral Service for Mrs. Virginia Odean Griffin Moran Keel, 80, of Daviston, Alabama, will be Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 4:00 pm at the Daviston Baptist Church. Rev. Craig Guy and Rev. Clyde Coker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rocky Mount Primitive Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 29, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Daviston Baptist Church. Mrs. Keel will lie instate at the Church for one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Odean passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at her residence. She was born on July 11, 1936 in Daviston, Alabama to Loomis Decosta Griffin and Tula Elsie Brown.

She was an active member of Sandy Creek Baptist and had previously been active in Daviston Baptist Church and Camp Hill Baptist Church. Her Church work included teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Youth Leader, and home mission trips. She graduated from Semmes High School in Mobile at the age of 17 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama. She taught English and Math at Daviston High School and New Site High School before obtaining her Master’s Degree in Deaf Education. She then taught at Alabama School for the Deaf and The Helen Keller School for the Deaf and Blind. After her retirement from Alabama Schools she taught ten years in Troup County, Georgia. She loved country, blue grass, and gospel music, especially Hank Williams. Mrs. Odean was an avid Alabama Fan of all sports and enjoyed the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and freezing her vegetables. She was a selfless person and lived to serve others.

She is survived by her daughters, Ginger East and Lori Carlisle (John) both of Daviston; son, Wesley Moran of Daviston; grandchildren, Tal East, Len East (fiance’ Corryn Feeney), Lydia Kenney (Jonathan), George Carlisle, Owen Carlisle, Nic Carlisle, Emily Anne Moran; special step-daughter, Debbie Kelly (Carl); sisters-in-law, Mary Cu Shivers and Jane Moran; nieces, Charlotte Bishop, Sharon Whitehead(Kenny), Cheryl Whisenant, Sheila Shivers; special Friends, Randy Cotney and Michelle Thompson.

Pallbearers will be the 1968 Daviston Basketball Team. Honorary Pallbearers will be the 1968 Daviston Cheerleaders and scorekeepers and Randy Cotney.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leon Merritt Moran; husband, Gordon Keel; her parents; and son-in-law, Tim East; in laws, Carl and Ruth Moran.
