The above birth and death dates were taken from a family record book. In my opinion, the death date on the marker is incorrect.
John Jasper Morris is the son of Jordan A. and Mary Ann (Button)Morris. He had a twin brother named, Issac Newton Morris.
His parents died when he was very young, so he was raised by his sister Eliza and her husband Andrew J. Pruitt.
John farmed and later drove cattle on the Chisom Trail.
Somewhere in Missouri he met Virginia Belle Rice but he had to wait until she was 18 to marry her so he followed the Rice family down into Hill County,TX. and then to Grayson County,TX. He and Virginia married Sept.5, 1881. They owned and operated a grocery store in Marrietta, OK., before it became a state.

In 1907 they moved to Sanger, TX. There he worked as a section foreman for the railroad and then as a common laborer until his death due to a stroke.
