Passing of J.K. Rutherford

Was Assessor of North Dumfries for Many Years

By the death on Tuesday of Mr. John K. Rutherford, the Township of North Dumfries loses one of its oldest, best-known and most highly esteemed residents, as well as one of the most painstaking and efficient public officials the municipality has ever had. During his long, continuous term as assessor, the deceased had frequently visited every home in the township and was personally known to everybody within the confines of North Dumfries, all of whom will regard his demise as very closely allied to a personal affliction. His long and faithful association with the Presbyterian Church in Ayr, both as a member and an office holder, especially as a prominent member of the Session for many years, also added luster to his usefulness and gave him a still water sphere in which to exercise his excellent qualities of head and heart. Mr. Rutherford, who was in his 74th year, was born on the farm on which he died. He had been in ? health for some time and when ? numerous care ? the bed with the ?
