Mrs. Edith Victoria Griffin Strickland, 95, died Tuesday, May 23 at Diversicare of Fulton, KY.

She was retired after serving almost 30 years as administrative assistant at First Christian Church in Paducah, KY.

Born in Clarendon, AR to Paul Jackson and Ethel May Henderson Griffin, Sr., Vicki grew up in Paducah and Brookport, IL, graduating from Brookport High School in 1940.

She attended Southern Illinois Normal School (now Southern Illinois University) before moving to Washington, D.C. in 1941 to work for the US Navy Department. She completed a public administration fellowship program at American University and continued working for the Navy overseeing civilian personnel in the DC area. She married Larry Ray Strickland in October 1948, and they moved to Paducah in 1950.

She was a member at First Christian Church and an associate member of Fulton First United Methodist Church. She was a 50 year member of the Clara Henrich Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron, District Deputy Matron, and Grand Chaplin of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Larry Griffin Strickland, brother Paul Jackson Griffin, Jr., and sisters Ramona Dye and Ethel Wyatt.

She is survived by her daughter Victoria Anne Strickland Seng of Union City, TN; daughter-in-law Lisa Williams Strickland of Ellenton, FL; three granddaughters Lisa (Michael) Maas of Lexington, KY, Victoria Leigh Seng and Holly Anne Seng of Union City, and two great grandchildren; Caleb and Caroline Maas of Lexington.

Graveside services will be held at 11AM Friday in the Massac Memorial Gardens in Metropolis, IL. Visitation will be held at the Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton, KY from 5-8PM Thursday.
