"Earl H. Baxter, 90 died Friday at the Walker Memorial Hospital in Avon Park, Florida following a brief illness. He was born in Knox and resided in Sloansville most of his life. He moved to Florida 15 years ago. Mr. Baxter was the owner and operator of the Baxter Garage on Route 20 in Sloansville for many years until his retirement in 1962. He was a 1915 graduate of Cobleskill High School and attended the Albany Business School, now the Albany Business College. He was the Esperance Town Clerk, a member of the board of directors of the Sloansville Valley Cemetery, a member of the Sloansville Methodist Church, where he was treasurer and trustee. He was also a member of the Avon Methodist Church and a 50 year plus member of the Schoharie Valley Masonic Lodge where he once was the master. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW I. Mr. Baxter's wife, the former Dorothy Fero, whom he married in 1921 died in 1981. Survivors include one son, Loren E Baxter of Jacksonville, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Ellen E. Carter of Avon Park and Mrs. Carol F Schaperjahn of Richmond Va. Service will be at 10 AM Wednesday at the Langan Funeral Home in Central Bridge with burial in Sloansville Valley Cemetery."
