Evelyn was christened Evelyn Anna Curran in Woodville, Waseca Co., Minnesota on January 6, 1910. She was the daughter of James Aloysius Curran and Rose Ella Burns both born in Ireland.

According to the 1910 U.S. Census taken shortly after her birth, Evelyn was an infant living with her farmer father James, mother Rose in Woodville, and her older siblings John J. (Joseph) (18), Frank L. (17), Rosella E. (16), William E. (13), James H. (11), Mary E. (10), Florence A. (7), and Chester S. (Sylvester) (2). By 1920 the oldest siblings were gone and Evelyn (9) lived with her parents and siblings Mary E. (20), Florence M. (16), and Chester T. (sic) (12).

In 1930, Rose was head of household living at 420 Herschel Ave. in Saint Paul, Ramsey Co., Minnesota with her children John (38), Frank (36), Mary (31), Chester S. (22), and Evelyn (20). Evelyn was not employed at the time of the census but is listed as a Helper in the 1930 St. Paul City Directory. In addition to her mother, she lived at Herschel Ave with her brother John (dentist), Frank (auto insurance agent), Mary (correspondent in a printing business), and Chester who was a linen supply driver. Evelyn continued living in St. Paul through at least 1931 working as a stenographer according to the St. Paul City Directory.

Between 1931 and 1941, Evelyn joined her two sisters in Seattle. She was listed as a factory worker living at 6744 25th Ave. NW in 1941 according to the Seattle City directory. She worked as a stenographer living at 314 W. Howe according to the 1943 directory. This was the home of her sister Rosella Curran Douglas and her brother-in-law Arthur F. Douglas based on the the Columbus Herald article and the 1942-1943 Seattle Directories. Her sister Mary E. Curran was a clerk at Rothschild International Stevedoring Co. in 1943 and also lived with the Douglases. Arthur worked as a metalworker at the Puget Sound Naval Yard.

Evelyn met Cpl. Charles Dorn when he was stationed at Fort Lawton and married him at the St. Anne's Catholic Church at 1316 2nd West in Seattle on July 19, 1944 (witnesses George Chabot and her sister Mary Curran). She became pregnant shortly thereafter. Charles arrived from his service on an Army transport ship off Hawaii a few days in advance of the baby's birth; the baby died on April 22, 1945, the day she was born. Evelyn died 9 days later owing to a liver ailment she suffered following the birth; she had been married for 9.5 months. According to Peg Dorn Griffen (Charlie's daughter by his second wife Lillian), Evelyn's death hit Charlie hard and he treasured her photo for the remainder of his life calling her his "lovely Irish girl."
