"Thomas Close...settled permanently in Greenwich, Connecticut and was one of the original patentees named in the patent granted tot he Town of Greenwich by the General Assembly in May, 1665. He married, Sarah, daughter of Richard and Ann (Heusted) Hardy in 1669. He died in Greenwich in 1709, leaving a will, dated 30 Dec 1708, which was probated in 1709. He was a member of the General Assembly in 1701.

The first page of his will reads as follows:

"In ye name of….I Thomas Close of Greenwich in ye County of Fairfield in ye Colony of Conecticut - Being in perfect mind and sound memory (Praised be Almighty God) but by reason of ye infirmities of age expecting my time of continuance in this world may not be long Do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally I commend my Soul into ye hands of almighty God hoping for ye free pardon of all my Sins through ye merits and promises of my Savior Jesus Christ And my body I commit to ye earth to be decently buried at ye direction of my executors hereafter to be named And as teaching ye disposition of all such temporal estate as it has pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me and which I have undisposed of at my decease whether real or personal I give and dispose thereof as followeth First I will that my debts and funeral charges shall be paid and discharged Item I give unto my daughter Sarah five shillings Item I give unto my daughter Hannah five shillings Item I give unto my son Thomas his three children five shillings Item I give until my son Joseph five shillings Item I give unto my son Benjamin five shillings Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth five shillings Item I give unto my daughter Ruth five shillings Item I give unto my son John five shillings Item I give unto my daughter Lidea five shillings All ye above said debts legacies and charges to be paid by my executors hereafter to be named All ye rest of my personal estate goods and cattle and credits give unto my loving wife executrix of this my last will and testament to be hers during her natural life and after her decease what is left and not spent of All my moveable goods without ____ to be equally divided between my daughters Hannah and Elizabeth and Ruth all moveable goods within doors to belong to my daughter Lidea after her mothers decease as above said Item I give unto my loving wife all my homeland orchard and all my meadows at home or elsewhere during her natural life as also ye full propriety and disposal thereof it she have necessity to sell any part or parcel or parcels thereof more or less for her maintenance _____ life to sell as fully as I could have done either land or meadow I also appoint my son Joseph to be with his mother executor of this my last will and testament In witness whereof I ye said Thomas Close have hereunto set in my hand and seal this thirtieth day of December in the seventh year of ye reign of Queen Anne Annoque Domini 1708 Also I Sarah Close do take up satisfied with this last will and testament of my husband as witness my hand and seal this day and year above written ____linked line 22 (____) line 29 (what is left indent spent of) line 26 (after her mother decease as abovesaid) line 27 (all my) signed and sealed in ye presence of us
