Bessie Lee Gary Simmons, 62, was born on December 31, 1954 in Marshall, Texas to Roderick "Dub" & Dorothy Gary. Bessie received her angel wings on Friday May 26, 2017 at Aime Hospice in Shreveport. Bessie worked for years at Woodlawn Manufacturing before going to Thiokol & finishing, by doing what she loved, cooking at the Marion County Jail until 2014.
She is survived by her husband Mark Henderson; daughter, Lissa Busbey & husband Jeffrey of Elysian Fields; step- daughter, Sarah Henderson Davis of Graford; granddaughters, Kayetlyn Hall & husband Nathan Hall of Shreveport, Angelia Davis of Graford, TX, and grandson, Logan Busbey of Elysian Fields. She is also survived by her brothers, Buddy & wife Debbie Gary, and Greg Gary; sisters, Julie Lee, Jo Dowhy & husband Bob, all of Karnack, Gale Yohn & husband Steve of Linden. There are a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins & very special friends dear to Bessie.
Her hobbies included making people laugh & spending time with family & friends. She loved going to watch her grandchildren play sports & cheering them on in whatever they did. She enjoyed spending time on the lake with Mark. She would help anyone that ever needed help. She loved her daughter & they shared a very special bond. She had several special friends that loved her & she loved them all dearly.
She is preceded in death by her mother & father, grandparents & 1 niece Kelly Prewitt. Anyone that knew Bessie remembers her infectious smile & laughter. She was a special lady that fought a long & hard battle. We find peace knowing she's pain free. A special thanks to the nurses & care takers at Amie Hospice Care in Shreveport.
Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017 in the chapel of Downs Funeral Home of Marshall. There will be a visitation from 12-2 p.m. preceding the service. Interment will be at Andrews Cemetery.
