Nathan Edward "Mitch" Mitchell, 55, of Stony Run Road passed away Oct. 2, 1997, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Blountstown, Fla., and a 21-year resident of Norfolk, Mitch was a U.S. Navy veteran. He began his Navy career in June of 1959 and retired as master chief electricians mate in June of 1979. He was also a marine electrical foreman with Beach Panel and Controls Inc. He was a member of the American Legion and Fleet Reserve Branch 60. He graduated with high honors from State Technical Institute of Memphis in March of 1975, where he received an associates degree in electrical engineering technology. He belonged to the Phi Theta Kappa fraternity.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 28 years, Betty B. Mitchell; two brothers, James O. Mitchell of Altha, Fla., Bobby F. Mitchell of Blountstown; many nieces, nephews and a host of good friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman A. Mitchell, Onice Mitchell and Rufus Mitchell, and also his parents, Nathan and Alice Mitchell.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel. A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
