Wally was born in Bethesda, MD to Wallace C. Barrett, Sr. and Barbara (Connolly) Barrett. He lived on several Marine Corp bases before moving to Ormond Beach, Florida, where he became an avid surfer. His passion for surfing and his love for the next road trip took him up and down the east coast during his high school years, then west to California and eventually halfway around the world to Australia. His easy going demeanor and enthusiasm for the sport allowed him to accumulate many friends during his travels. Wally had a "remarkable" gift in sharing his adventures and thoughts through poetry and story writing. Wally moved to Gainesville, FL in the early 80s to begin his education which led to a Master's Degree in Library Management. He is survived by his two children, Eli & Julia, his sister, Allyson Barrett, and many friends and loved ones who will miss his infectious smile, fun loving nature and clever wit.
