Sandra Elaine (Simmons) Moreland of El Reno, Oklahoma passed away at the age of 68 on May 21, 2017 in her son’s home due to complications from Bile Duct Cancer and other ailments. Sandra was born on March 3, 1949 in Decatur, Illinois to her mother Delma Crowe and her father Riley Wilbur Simmons; sister to Wilbur Leon Simmons and adopted brother Jonathan Simmons. Sandra was wife to Ray Noble Moreland, loving mother of seven children, and grandmother to five. Her favorite hobbies were gardening, reading, nature watching, and caring for animals. She was raised in Chicago, Illinois where she lived and attended elementary school through high school, graduating in 1967, and dreamt of pursuing a career in Paleontology and Journalism. She held a clerical job in her late high school years and later worked for Kraft Foods. Her life was filled with hardships and difficulties, but she confronted all problems head-on with her indominable strength and fierce determination. Family matters and starting her own family prevented her from pursuing her dreams by consistently demanding her attention and energy. In the 1970’s she met and married Ray Moreland in Chicago, Illinois and eventually started her family. Sandra always put others before herself, sacrificing her needs and wants for others. She adored animals all her life and devoted herself to aiding injured animals, caring for them, and giving them a friendly home. Later in life Sandra met and became friends with a Christian Bible Study Group from overseas. She devoted herself for 13 years conducting Bible Lessons based on each book from the Bible and greatly enjoyed writing and communicating with the Christian group whom she regarded as a second family. Despite living with her many ailments including Bipolar/Clinical Depression she gave everything she had for what she believed in, helping animals, people in need, and her family. Sandra is preceded in death by husband Ray Noble Moreland, mother Delma (Crowe) Simmons, father Riley Wilbur Simmons, brother Wilbur Leon Simmons, Aunt Opal (Crowe) Adkins, Aunt Noretta (Crowe) Kirkwood, Aunt Ruenel (Crowe) Casteel, Uncle Carl Mack Crowe, and Uncle Tim Crowe. She is survived by her children: daughters Amanda Rainelle Moreland, Sherry (Moreland) Adejumo, Leah Katura Moreland, Lonnette Rosalie Moreland, and sons Aaron David Moreland, Carl Daniel Moreland, and George Wayland Riley Moreland and grandchildren Madison Adejumo, Isaiah Adejumo, Tjaden Moreland, Alari Moreland, and child of Lonnette Moreland. Sandra’s last request was that no service be held. She was cremated at Absolute Economical Funeral Home located at 7721 N. W. 10th Street, Suite B, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
