Steve Brian McDonald, 50, was called to be with the Lord on May 24, 2017 at his home in Durham surrounded by his family. Born on January 3, 1967, Steve was the first baby of the year in Fairfield, CA where he was born. Oldest son of Ron and Helen McDonald, they moved to Chico where he grew up. At some point, he attended each elementary school in town depending upon where they lived. He participated in Cub Scouts, loved playing Little League Baseball, collecting baseball cards and was very active in his church.

After graduating from Pleasant Valley High School he attended Hyles-Anderson Christian College for a semester in Indiana. He returned home to Chico and then attended Butte College where upon his graduation in spring 1992 he gave the graduation address. He then attended and graduated from CSU Chico, College of Agriculture in December 1994 with a BS degree in Ag Business. Steve was an active member of Butte County Farm Bureau and CSU Chico Superior Ag Scholarship Committee. When time allowed, he also went to the Durham Wood Turners group, a passion he didn’t have enough time to pursue.

A hard worker all his life, he put himself through college working multiple jobs fulltime but mostly as a Finish Carpenter. After college he worked for Holly Sugar, for 5 years he managed the wastewater ranch for Pacific Coast Producers, and for the last 14 years he has worked for Central Ag Products as a field buyer for almonds and walnuts, a job he loved. Steve was a man of great faith and character. He valued honesty, loyalty and a great sense of humor in his friends. He was a fan of baseball and enjoyed reading. Although he liked to work, his favorite thing was being with his family.

He met his wife of 26 years in the summer of 1988. Steve and Cinnamon married 2 years later in July of 1990. He was a very dedicated dad, always involved raising his kids and attending almost all field trips and enjoying all the class projects. He was a Cub Scout leader for many years with Pack 16 and his sons, coached Upward Basketball for 6 years and then coached softball for 10 years with his daughter. He loved to spend hours with the kids helping teach them life lessons. Steve thought his greatest accomplishment in life was his children.

Steve is survived by his wife, Cinnamon, sons Gus and Clayton and daughter AllyRose McDonald. His parents Ron and Helen McDonald and his brother Scot (Jennifer) McDonald, his wife’s parents Al and Carroll Amator, brother Aaron Amator, sister Sommer Horn along with 9 nieces and nephews and many other family members. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Patrick Ranch in Durham on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11 a.m.
