Christopher “Chris” Wayne Atkinson went to be healed in Heaven on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.

He suffered from renal failure and heart disease, which were far too much for his earthly body to handle any longer.

Chris will be missed by his family and many friends that he gained over the 48 years he lived treating others with kindness and compassion. He was always willing to be a friend to all, and is known for his amazing sense of humor and ability to make others laugh with his funny stories.

Those that have known Chris have been blessed with having a great friend, and many that have learned of his death have expressed sorrow in knowing that he left this life at a very young age, and his time seemed way too short.

Chris had three things in life that made him especially happy: animals, family, and the Panthers. He loved animals, and they loved him. You could say he was a dog whisperer of sorts. If Chris was around, your pet went to him. Dogs were especially a favorite of his, which is ironic because in in high school, his nickname was Bulldog. The pets at home and in the neighborhood will miss him, but none more than Mojo.

Family meant everything to Chris. They were the most important people to him. He enjoyed spending time with ALL of his family members at home, at the movies, going places; it did not really matter, as long as he was with them.

He was an avid Panthers Football fan and was fortunate enough to be able to go to many of the games. He enjoyed every single one he attended! If he was not at the game, he was watching it…every Sunday, Monday, or Thursday they played.

Although these are the things he loved the most, they were not the only things he loved. Chris loved life. He loved laughter; doing it, and hearing it. He loved music. He loved practical jokes. He loved going places and traveling. He loved talking. He loved people.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, James Dixon Atkinson, Sr., his grandfathers, E. K. Atkinson and Calvin Sloan, his grandmothers, Evelyn Atkinson and Louise Sloan.

He is survived by family that will miss him including his mother, Catherine S. Renzulli, his brother, James Atkinson, and sister-in-law, Brenda Atkinson, his daughter, Kiersten Darnell, and his dog, Mojo. Chris had many other family members and friends that will miss him. Because Chris “never met a stranger,” even the folks that work at the local Chic Fil A and Tryon House Restaurant will miss his friendly smile and contagious laugh.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 4701 Hedgemore Dr #810, Charlotte, NC 28209
