Longtime Dearborn resident Harold Thomas McCormick, Jr. died May 9, 2017, at age 75.

He was living in his home in Wellston before he died, surrounded by the beautiful yard and woods that he so loved.

Mr. McCormick was born Feb. 6, 1942, to Harold and Laura McCormick, Sr. in Wyandotte.

He graduated from Wyandotte Roosevelt High School in 1960 and served in the Navy from 1960 to 1962.

After his military service, he moved to Michigan where he established his career as a carpenter, and was a lifelong member of the carpenters’ union. He continued to cultivate his skills in woodworking, and was considered by many to be a master craftsman in his prime.

He called Dearborn home from 1978 to 2003.

Mr. McCormick perhaps was best known as a hunter and outdoorsman who held a deep regard for nature.

He also had an interest in history and antiques, which led to his joining the Michigan Muzzle Loading Association with his wife, Beverly. Together they attended Rendezvous, where they participated in historical reenactments and competed in marksmanship activities.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly McCormick; sister, Laura Jane Jones; brother, John McCormick; and six children: Laura, Karen, Cheryl, Patricia, Harold and Michael.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. May 27 at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Soldiers’ Angels, a non-profit organization providing aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States military.
