He was a proud graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, Charleston, S.C. where he was a member of the Regimental Band. In his junior year at The Citadel he was the Pipe Major and in his senior year he was the Drum Major. He held cadet rank of Corporal, Staff Sergeant, and First Lieutenant. He attended The Citadel from his home in Laurinburg, N.C. and was known as "TT" to his classmates. He was an excellent student being named to the Dean's List for academic excellence all four years as a cadet. He was a Catholic Chapel usher and a member of the Newman Club. He was a member of the Bulldog Orchestra and the economics Honor Society. His academic major was Business Administration.
After a successful business career, he retired to enjoy a life of fishing, golfing and family. He is survived by his wife, Sally; son Tom (Mary Catherine Glenn) and daughter Meredith (Alan), and four wonderful grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas T. Covington, Jr., he is also survived by his mother, Genevieve Covington of Laurinburg. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings, Janet Powers, Skeeter Covington, Harry Covington, Judy Crawley, Ginger Bryant and Mitch Covington.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3 at Hillside Cemetery. A reception will follow at the home of Ginny Covington.
