Harry J. Fitzgerald, 87, of Marietta passed away on May 24, 2017 under hospice care at Heartland of Marietta. Harry was born on October 19, 1929 in Marietta, the son of Harry T. and Lulu (Jones) Fitzgerald.

A 1948 graduate of Marietta High School, where he played football and set a high jump record that stood for many years, Harry enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Yakota Air Force Base in Japan during the Korean War. Following his return home he completed a degree in Geology at Marietta College, graduating in 1957. A lifetime member of the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption, Harry served as an usher and was a past member of the Parish Council. A founding member of the Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and member of the Washington County Historical Society, he was an avid golfer and member of the Marietta Country Club, where he was a past club champion.

On June 21, 1958 Harry married Joan (Duvall) who survives. Together they owned and operated the former Magnuson Hotel by the River along with their children David, Mark and Sandra Fitzgerald, all of Marietta. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Don Duvall and his wife Ginny of Kettering and Gary Duvall and his wife Karen of Marietta, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Along with his parents, Harry was preceded in death by Joan's parents, Glen and Lillie (King) Duvall, by his brother and sister and their spouses - Gerald and Peggy (Potter) Fitzgerald and Joe and Dorothy (Fitzgerald) Cernus and by nephews, Joey Cernus and Larry Neuhart and by niece, Janet Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta with Msgr. John Michael Campbell officiating. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Friday, May 26 at the funeral home.
