She was born August 8, 1925 in Buffalo, NY- a daughter to the late Joseph and Caroline (Strzelecka) Durak. She was a high school graduate of Sardinia.
Josephine worked on the assembly line at Fisher Price in Holland as well as for Thimble and Thread in Springville. She enjoyed quilting, going to garage sales, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She married her late husband, Leon Smith, in June of 1945 in Sardinia, NY.
She is survived by her children: Gordon (Bonnie) Smith of E. Concord; Larry Smith of South Dayton; Jane (Joseph) Huber of Orchard Park; Nancy (Michael) Ahrens of Springville; her sister: Beth Coyle of Denver, CO; also survived by seven grandchildren: Gordon (Kris) Smith; Heather (Shawn) Pennington; Mike (Stacy) Huber; Matt Huber; Josh (Jen) Huber; Joe (Shiela) Huber; David (Sharon) Smith; 13 great-grandchildren including Morgan, Sean, Madilyn, Sydney, Reese, Emily, Riley, and Ryan; and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three siblings: Ciel, Nick, and Mike.
Friends may call Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home- 271 E. Main St., Springville where a funeral service will be held Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:30 AM. Burial in East Concord Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Springville Fire Dept; the East Concord Fire Dept; Bertrand Chaffee Hospital; or the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home.
